Sabrina Laatz

Position: Secretary

Biography:

Sabrina, our diligent secretary who is responsible for making sure there is a paper trail for our antics is an aspiring zoology student. This like many things in life is a cover for her true goal which is to develop hamster Kung Fu. This may seem like a weak martial art style but Chinese mythology buffs might recall the story of how the rat (a close relative of the hamster) became the first animal in the Chinese calendar when it was designated by a race.

The myth is that the Emporer in Heaven ordered the animals to have a race and the first 12 would have a designated spot in the chinese calendar. The rat and the cat were good friends and neighbours at this moment in time (just bear with me) so the cat said “I usually sleep in, will you wake me up for the race in the morning?” to which the rat agreed and promised so they can go together. But on the morning of the race, the rat was so excited about the race, he forgot his promise and went straight to the gathering place.

On his way to the starting line, he came across the tiger, dragon, ox and all the other animals that were ran much faster. The rat knew he couldn’t compete so he made a deal with the ox that if he let the rat ride on his back, the rat will sing to him during the race (remember, there’s no iPods then). When they neared the finish line, the ox was delighted to see he was the first animal to finish but the rat slid in front at the last second and became the first lucky animal in the Chinese zodiac. Meanwhile, the cat woke up only to find the race is over and the spots were filled.

This is why all the other animals appear behind the rat and that the cat hates the rat so much that whenever they meet, the cat will chase and try to kill it. Don’t you love it when things start to make sense

That went slightly off topic but with this in mind, hamster Kung Fu doesn’t seem so silly anymore, does it? Keep that in mind when you come across our secretary in a dark alley haha
